'Would be beautiful!' GOP lawmaker tries to spin leaking war plans as a positive
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) on Wednesday did his best to spin Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth leaking top-secret war plans as a positive.
During an interview with CNN's Kate Bolduan, Davidson was asked if he had any concerns about Hegseth inadvertently sharing plans with Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg could have put American service personnel in jeopardy.
"If this text had been received by someone hostile to American interests or someone merely indiscreet with access to social media, the Houthis would have had time to prepare for what was meant to be a surprise attack on their strongholds," said Bolduan. "The consequences for American pilots could have been catastrophic. You do not agree that this is problematic?"
"Well, let's play this out," replied Davidson. "Let's say that the the leak to Goldberg was even intentional, and he was intentionally added. If the level of information is what you're describing to me and what I've heard, you guys report, great! All the terrorists in Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Qaeda, and their affiliates, every terrorist anywhere would think, 'Oh crap, they're coming for me!' That would be beautiful! I hope it would flush out even more of them."

"But it was supposed to be a surprise attack," Bolduan emphasized. "That was the intention of it."
"I think it was a surprise," replied Davidson. "And the results show that it was, in fact, a surprise and it seemed to be pretty effective."
Of course, had foreign intelligence operatives intercepted the plans as they were posted on Signal and relayed them to the Houthis, the element of surprise would have been decisively lost.
