Rotterdam native Riley Mulver commits to Siena
LOUDONVILLE, NY (NEWS10) -- The transfer portal in college basketball is a free-for-all, especially for mid-majors. When the portal opened on Monday, three Siena players entered, including second-leading scorer Major Freeman. But just a day later, the Saints added an impact player, who also happens to be a local product.
Rotterdam native Riley Mulvey announced his commitment to Siena on social media. Mulvey announced he was entering the transfer portal last week after spending four years at Iowa University, playing for former Siena head coach Fran McCaffery.
Once Mulvey entered the portal, Siena was always his top choice. "I was always going to come back home," said Mulvey. "That was that was like the biggest thing for me, finding a place close to home. Siena was obviously number one for that because of the fact that my parents have gone there, I know so many people that have gone there and go there currently. It's closest to home and it was obviously going to be the number one option."
Mulvey is looking forward to donning the green and gold. "It's going to be a lot of fun," said Mulvey. "It was very fun to put on the uniform and take some photos, but it's going to be a lot of fun to wear the uniform in the game and go play really well."
Mulvey played 19 games for Iowa last season, starting two games. He averaged 2.2 points per game, and 1.9 rebounds per game.
Mulvey averaged 12 points and 12 rebounds per game through his sophomore season at Albany Academy. He transfered to St. Thomas More in Connecticut after his sophomore season due to COVID-19 restrictions in New York State.
