Beavers down UW behind Arquette's 2-run homer
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Oregon State secured a 5-2 victory over University of Washington on Tuesday night at a sold-out Hillsboro Ballpark. The Beavers claimed their 19th win of the season and bounced back following a single game loss to Cal Poly over the weekend which snapped their winning streak.
Oregon State got on the board early in the 2nd inning after a failed pickoff attempt by Washington starter Tommy Brandenburg allowed Trent Caraway to advance to third base and later score. Washington quickly responded in the 3rd with a score by Alex Guerrero, tying the game 1-1.
The Huskies took a brief lead in the 4th inning, but the Beavers answered back in the 5th when Gavin Turley hit a two-run double, bringing home Malcolm Singer and Aiva Arquette to take back the lead at 3-2.
After finishing the game 3-for-3, Arquette extended Oregon State's advantage to 5-2 with a two-run homer to left-center in the 7th inning. His outstanding performance lead the Beavs to their 21st win in the last 23 games playing UW over the years.
Oregon State used seven pitchers throughout the game. Closer AJ Hutcheson wrapped up the night with a scoreless 9th inning.
Up next, the Beavers hit the road to take on Nebraska on Friday night.
