Man Utd are now willing to sign €60m Spanish star as Real Madrid enter the race
Manchester United could pursue a new central defender when the transfer window reopens this summer.
The Red Devils have had a tough Premier League campaign, and they have struggled to keep regular clean sheets due to defensive and goalkeeping errors.
The club could enter the transfer market for a new centre-back later this year, considering Lisandro Martinez is sidelined with a serious knee ligament injury.
The Argentine may not return until the final quarter of 2025. AS (page 2) now report that United are chasing the signature of Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen.
The Spaniard only joined the Cherries from Juventus last summer, but he has made immense progress.
Huijsen recently made his debut for the Spanish national team, and he looks poised to secure a new challenge away from the South Coast outfit this summer.
The 19-year-old has a €60 million (£50m) release clause in his contract.
United should have no trouble paying the fee, but they face fierce competition from Real Madrid.
Huijsen recently admitted that he is honoured to be linked with Los Blancos. Madrid are prepared to fast-track their pursuit, having initially planned a move for 2026.
United likely to miss out on Huijsen’s services
The Red Devils made the headlines last summer as they beat Madrid to Leny Yoro’s signature.
The French wonderkid was the top defensive target for the European champions. They did not search for an alternative after Yoro made the switch to Old Trafford.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are now hot on Huijsen’s trail. In our opinion, United’s chances of signing the teenager are slim if Madrid make a formal transfer approach.
Huijsen has publicly talked about his admiration for the club. After missing out on Yoro last year, Los Blancos are unlikely to haggle over the price this time around.
United have also been linked with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite but we believe the club should target a bargain deal for Oumar Solet, who is turning heads in Serie A.
