Beloved Michael's Pastry Shop in Brooklyn to close after three decades
MARINE PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- A long-standing and beloved Italian pastry shop is set to serve its final slice at the end of the month.
Michael's Pastry Shop, tied to Michael's of Brooklyn restaurant on Avenue R, will be closing at the end of March, according to a notice posted inside the bakery.
"Michael’s Bakery in Marine Park was our family’s go to for custom cakes for celebrations, Sunday dinner pastries and Italian cookies, and emergency Italian bread runs," said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President, Randy Peers in a social media post.
The family-owned business has been a beloved spot for those custom cakes, Italian cookies and cannoli since 1964, according to its website.
"While it has been an honor to serve our community, unfortunately, this conclusion could not be avoided," the notice in the bakery read. "We want to thank you for 31 years of endless loyalty and support."
The closing comes shortly after another beloved staple, the Downtown Brooklyn Macy's closed on Sunday.
It was not immediately made clear why the Michael's Pastry Shop would be closing, however, the restaurant portion is expected to remain in business.
