NYS Parks hiring for lifeguards for upcoming summer season
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- If you're looking for a summer job, New York State Parks is already on the hunt for lifeguards for the upcoming season.
Applications are open online to be a lifeguard with NYS Parks this summer. Those interested in the position should be a strong swimmer, have a love for the outdoors and a desire to help their community.
Potential job applicants should be at least 15 years old for pool assignments and at least 16 years old for other locations.
Job seekers should also have current American Red Cross certifications in lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and AED, administered in the last one to two years.
Long Island lifeguards have a different qualification procedure that includes having to complete a 100-yard swim in 75 seconds or less, a 50-yard chest carry, a 3/4 mile run, and a 350 to 400-yard swim in open water. Additionally, Long Island candidates should be at least 17 years old.
Those who complete the lifeguard application for either New York City or Long Island should then register for an upcoming lifeguard qualifier test.
