Morning Joe singles out GOP senator who should be fuming over war plans blunder
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough put pressure on Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) to hold Donald Trump officials accountable for a stunning security breach at the highest levels of government.
The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg revealed that he was added to a group chat by National Security Adviser Mike Waltz in which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth disclosed top-secret war plans two hours before U.S. troops conducted a bombing raid in Yemen. The "Morning Joe" host lambasted the administration for incompetence.
"We heard about how we need we need this warrior culture, we need this macho culture inside the Pentagon and inside our military," Scarborough said. "I think we need a competent culture, as well."
Scarborough highlighted a quote by Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), who reacted to the revelations by saying that American parents were more concerned about other topics.
"There is a Republican who had said that mamas and daddies weren't worried at night about this," Scarborough said. "I guarantee you, mothers and fathers whose children are deployed right now, whether it's on submarines or ships or in, you know, on military bases across the world, they're very concerned their children may go into combat situations with people that aren't protecting their lives, that aren't protecting the security of these operations. So, yeah, there needs to be a lot more talk, not only inside the White House, but the oversight committees on Capitol Hill."
The host singled out Cotton, in particular, as an elected official who should be concerned about what Goldberg reported and the White House confirmed. Cotton is the chair of the U.S. Select Committee on Intelligence.
But Scarborough expressed doubt that he would because the scandal didn't involve a Democratic administration.
"This is something that Sen. Tom Cotton from Arkansas would be concerned about in any other situation," Scarborough said. "I certainly hope he will bring it up in some hearings that he has today."
