Iran’s FM: Nuclear talks with US possible only if Trump changes policy
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, emphasized in an interview that they are not concerned with Donald Trump’s expectations. Instead, Iran focuses on its own interests, and will act according to what is deemed appropriate.
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, stated that negotiations with the United States would not yield any results and that Iran is not concerned with the expectations of U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Mehr News Agency, Araghchi emphasized on Sunday, March 23, that Iran focuses on its own interests and will act according to what it deems necessary.
He further explained that the refusal to negotiate with the U.S. is not due to stubbornness, but rather stems from historical experience and past events. Araghchi, an expert and diplomat, mentioned that under the current circumstances, there is no possibility of entering into talks with the U.S., unless certain conditions change.
Araghchi also addressed Trump’s letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, acknowledging that sending letters and correspondence is part of diplomacy. However, he noted that such actions can also be seen as a form of pressure or threat.
On the other hand, Araghchi stated that Iran has always sought to avoid war, but it is prepared for any situation, including conflict, and is not afraid of it. He reiterated that Iran’s policies, particularly in recent years, have shown that the country is not seeking war. However, it remains ready for any situation.
In parallel, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, had previously remarked that the U.S. would not achieve anything by threatening the Islamic Republic. These statements come amidst reports that U.S. and Israeli officials are set to meet at the White House next week to discuss Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran’s firm stance on not negotiating under current conditions reflects the ongoing tension between Tehran and Washington, with both sides maintaining opposing positions on key issues, including the nuclear program. Despite this, Iran continues to emphasize its readiness for dialogue under different circumstances while simultaneously asserting its preparedness to face any challenges.
