Provisional Goldie crew wins University Pennant at HORR 2025
It was a great day in the office for our provisional Goldie crew (men’s reserves) who represented the Cambridge men at Head of the River Race 2025. Following strong racing throughout the 2025 Fixture Series, the crew took home the Bernard Churcher Trophy and University Pennant, laying down the fastest time of any University crew, and placing 7th overall.
A massive well done to our boys in light blue!

Race Report: James Trotman, cox
On a mild Saturday morning, CUBC’s provisional Goldie line up took on the best of UK and international rowing at the Head of the River Race 2025. Starting with bow number 23, Goldie got off to a bright start stroked by Matt Heywood (sub). Drawing in on the crews in front, Goldie overtook a crew from Royal Chester around St Paul’s, and a crew from Upper Thames past Harrods. Ultimately, after a solid row, Goldie finished in a time of 17:44.8, placing 7th overall and claiming the University Pennant, awarded to the fastest University crew, the first pennant for the Cambridge men since 2022. Now, the crew returns to Ely to finalise training ahead of 13 April.
Please note: all crews are provisional until crew announcements take place from 26-28 March. The crew may not represent the crew for the The Boat Race.
