Ian Anderson traded to Los Angeles Angels
ANAHEIM, CA (NEWS10) -- For the first time in his professional baseball career, Ian Anderson will be playing for an organization other than the Atlanta Braves.
The Shenendehowa graduate was traded from the Braves to the Los Angeles Angels Sunday in exchange for left-handed pitcher José Suárez.
Anderson was drafted by the Braves in 2016. He made his Major League debut with the club in 2020 and helped lead them to a World Series championship in 2021; the same year he finished fifth in the National League Rookie of the Year voting.
After struggling his way through much of the 2022 season, Anderson spent the rest of that year in the minor leagues before undergoing Tommy John surgery in early 2023.
Anderson has been steadily working his way back from that surgery and was making a strong bid this spring training to earn a roster spot with the Braves. In 17 innings of work, he posted a respectable 2.65 ERA.
The 26-year-old hurler will now look to land on the Angels' Opening Day roster. They open up the season Thursday in Chicago against the White Sox.
