Monday Memories: Mud Hens fans rang-in Opening Day at Swayne Field in 1937
Fans could ring a large bell installed in the stands at Swayne Field to show their support during Mud Hens Games. In this April 1937 Blade archive photo, Mud Hens rooters Wayne Logan and Charles Shook shared a laugh as they made some noise on Opening Day. The game between the Hens and Indianapolis Indians was preceded by an automobile parade through downtown Toledo. A band concert entertained a crowd of 2,500 people during opening ceremonies, followed by Mayor Roy Start throwing out the first pitch. Opening Day for the Mud Hens this year is Friday against the Columbus Clippers.
