Canario, Nimmo Push Mets To 10-2 Win Over Miami
The New York Mets’ offense took center stage Sunday afternoon, belting four home runs and racking up 15 total hits in a commanding 10-2 victory over the Miami Marlins in their penultimate spring game at Clover Park.
Alexander Canario, still fighting for a roster spot, delivered a strong performance at the dish with three hits, including two home runs—one of which was a grand slam to left field in the fourth inning. Starling Marte and Tyrone Taylor also went deep, with Taylor later adding an RBI single alongside Luisangel Acuña. Brandon Nimmo had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, and triple, falling just a home run short of the cycle.
Francisco Lindor rebounded from an early pickoff at first base to collect two hits, while Pete Alonso and Mark Vientos contributed to the offensive surge. Brett Baty showed great patience at the plate, drawing three walks in what has been another strong spring for him.
On the mound, Griffin Canning wrapped up his final spring start with a solid 4 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, and three walks while striking out six. Connor Overton, José Ureña, Chris Devenski, and Génesis Cabrera combined to keep the Marlins off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
Player of the Game: Alexander Canario
Still vying for a roster spot with the Mets after being traded by the Chicago Cubs, Canario had an explosive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored. One of the two home runs was a grand slam to left field that broke open the bottom of the fourth inning.
