Sean Brady rips Leon Edwards for lack of focus after UFC Fight Night 255: 'He got smoked'
LONDON – Sean Brady had no problems rubbing in Leon Edwards’ loss after the UFC Fight Night 255 main event.
After Brady (18-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) became the first to finish Edwards (22-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) in MMA competition on Saturday with a fourth-round submission in the welterweight headliner at The O2, he offered some pointed criticisms of the former UFC champion.
Prior to the bout, Brady said it was “a bad look” for Edwards to be speaking so much about his title loss to Belal Muhammad in July. He felt Edwards wasn’t focused on the task as hand, then went into the octagon and ran through “Rocky” to get his hand raised.
Following the one-sided performance, Brady doubled down on his belief that Edwards’ head was in all the wrong places.
“I think he was too worried about Belal,” Brady told MMA Junkie and other reporters post-fight at UFC Fight Night 255. “He was too worried about how tall I am, he was too worried about a bunch of other things that didn’t matter, and it showed tonight. He got smoked. He should’ve been more focused on this fight.”
Brady joined a short list of fighters to defeat Edwards, but separated himself from the pack by leaving the judges out of it. The American said he’s taking the humble path forward and isn’t making title shot demands, but he expects something significant going forward.
As for Edwards, it’s back to the drawing board, and Brady said there’s work to be done if he wants to return to the championship scene at 170 pounds.
“Leon likes to be a pretty striker,” Brady said. “He likes to have his range and have things go on his terms. Once they start going off his terms, he does dumb sh*t like shoot on me. Then it goes downhill from there.”
