High Surf Advisory issued for Barbados
The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a high surf advisory for the island.
Choppy sea conditions are currently affecting the western coastlines and are expected to continue into Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Small craft operators and beachgoers are being urged to exercise caution, as the conditions may lead to overtopping of waves onto nearby properties and roads. Some damage to coastal homes and infrastructure is possible, along with beach erosion and the risk of injury or loss of life.
The BMS is also encouraging the public to use beaches with on-duty lifeguards and to secure any objects on the beachfront that may be swept away by strong wave action.
Current data from sea surface monitoring indicates northerly swells reaching heights of 1.0 to 1.5 metres.
Marine users are advised to monitor updates from the BMS, Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and Government Information Service (GIS) via official websites, social media pages, and local news networks.
The advisory was issued at 5:30 p.m today and will be updated at 12 noon on Saturday, March 22, or sooner if conditions change. (BMS)
