Eunice and Basile to star in two new upcoming movies
EUNICE, La. (KLFY)-- Eunice and Basile is about to make their "big break" in Hollywood with two upcoming films.
Two movies, 'Dead Dawn' and 'Lake Vernon,' are being filmed in Basile and Eunice.
Dead Dawn is a horror comedy, and Lake Vernon is a phycological thriller.
The crew filmed for the movies at the Crying Eagle Lodge in Basile and downtown Eunice.
As a Louisiana native, Producer Isaiah LaBorde said he's happy to bring movie sets to small towns.
"We chose here because of the Crying Eagle Lodge," LaBorde said. "It has enough housing for my cast and crew. And the surrounding.... the beautiful downtown of Eunice really captured a lot of the small town of what we wanted."
That small town feel was also captured in the costume designs.
Mallie Smith, Gossip Clothing Boutique owner, said the costume designer shopped small for the set.
"Hollywood, the main costume designer, came in around Mardi Gras to compliment the store," Smith said. "He said he absolutely loved it, and he promised he would come back."
"When they were on set this week, he came back, shopped and found what he said was the perfect top for one of the main actresses," Smith said. "Which, I found was such a huge compliment for me and the store. And it was so exciting."
Costume designer Donald 'Hollywood' McFinley said he wanted to incorporate local businesses beyond just the background.
"I wanted to shop local. Once I read the script and got into my characters, I wanted to bring that energy from where we were going to be," Hollywood said. "Where is this story taking place? I wanted to bring some of that love and energy into the film."
'Hollywood' said he got his nickname from actors Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins on the set of Shawshank Redemption.
"I just learned how to do what mom told me to do, treat people the way you want to be treated," McFinley said. "So, Morgan and Tim says, Hollywood, you treat everyone like a star.'"
There are a few notable stars on set in Acadiana: Vernon Davis, Malcolm Goodwin, David Anders, Olivia Applegate, Andrea Sixtos and Krishna Smith.
LaBorde said the movies will be on streaming services by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
