American Dad Is Getting Ready to Move Back Home to Fox
Were you upset to hear the news earlier today that TBS is no longer planning to air new episodes of American Dad? Well, we got a feeling that it’s gonna be a wonderful day for you again, because per Deadline, Seth MacFarlane’s animated show has already found a new home. Or should we say an old home? American Dad is set to return to Fox in what is reportedly expected to be a multi-season deal, starting with season 20. (The upcoming March 24 episode will serve as the season 19 finale on TBS, but reruns of old episodes will continue on TBS and fellow Warner Bros. Discovery networks Adult Swim and TruTV until at least 2030.) According to Deadline, this move has been in the works for months, so the show has been able to stay in production.
American Dad debuted on Fox in 2005 before leaving for cable in 2014. This isn’t the first time that that one of MacFarlane’s animated shows has been resurrected after a break; Family Guy found its way back to Fox despite previously being canceled. We weren’t in the room where it happened, but when it came time to choose which cartoon dad to welcome home after Peter Griffin, we imagine that some network exec probably saw the fan interest and said, “We have no choice but to Stan.”
