Opening Day Starters go head-to-head
As spring training begins to wind down, the Athletics host the Kansas City Royals today at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa Arizona. Luis Severino will take the mound today in what is likely to be his final spring training start. Severino, a 31-year-old righty, enters today’s game with an 0-2 record and 6.00 ERA in nine innings. He’ll go up against 27-year-old lefty Cole Ragans who is 2-1 with a 5.79 ERA in fourteen spring innings. This game is a showdown of named opening day starters for each team. Brent Rooker will get the start in left field today. Last year he served as Designated Hitter in in 131 of his 145 games, and didn’t play the field even once since May 30. But this year he’s expected to get more playing time in the outfield.

According to @MartinJGallegos, “X-rays came back negative for Zack Gelof. There is a little swelling on his right hand, so he’ll be held back from baseball activity today to let the swelling go down. A’s will see where he’s at tomorrow.”
