Is 'The Residence' Getting a Season 2 at Netflix? Actors & Creators Tease Possible Focus of Next Season

Netflix just dropped the new Shondaland series The Residence and its bound to be a big hit for the streamer, so a second season already feels inevitable.

Uzo Aduba and Randall Park star in the murder mystery series set in the White House, but don’t expect a second season to be set there as well.

Here’s a quick synopsis: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”

We know that The Residence is not intended as a limited series because Netflix will be submitting the show in the Comedy Series category at the Emmys.

Netflix has not yet renewed The Residence, for a second season, but the show’s creator and stars are already teasing plans for a potential second installment.

Series creator Paul William Davies told Deadline, “I really love Cordelia Cupp; I really enjoyed coming up with her and writing her. Uzo is amazing. I love the relationship between Cordelia and Edwin. There are lots more stories to tell about her adventures and him with her. We’ll see how people feel about the show but I certainly would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought a lot about it, and didn’t have a lot of ideas about where it could go.”

Uzo and Randall are open to starring in a second season!

Randall told Deadline, “We talk about that all the time, we would love it, in part because we had such a great time in the actual making of this show. But also, the characters’ dynamic is just so fun to play, and Paul is so singular in his writing style and in the way he approaches these mysteries that the opportunity to maybe travel to another country and solve another case would be pretty amazing.”

Uzo added, “Absolutely. I love Cordelia, I love playing Cordelia. What I know for sure is that the adventures and the cases will never stop. There’s always going to be something in the world to solve. She has found an amazing partner and friend in Edwin Park, and I wish nothing more for them to continue solving, exploring and journeying around the world.”
