‘You’re insane!’: Ex-DNC spokesperson takes heat from two Republicans over Musk report
Former DNC Communications Director Xochitl Hinojosa found herself in the middle of a double onslaught of Republican attacks during a fiery CNN panel as she blasted billionaire Trump ally Elon Musk’s reported Pentagon briefing on Friday.
The briefing, which a New York Times report said will give the world’s richest man – who also leads President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency – the United States’ top-secret plan for a potential U.S.-China war, was met with alarm by some.
The new development left Hinojosa, a former Biden Justice Department public affairs director, warning about the potential national security threat the briefing posed as she fired back at Republican Joe Borelli, a former New York City Council GOP leader, who was supportive of Musk’s upcoming Pentagon meeting.
“Maybe I’m the crazy one at the table, but I’m actually comfortable with someone who is incredibly effective at putting small objects and large objects into orbit over China,” Borelli told the panel on CNN’s “NewsNight.”
“Are you comfortable with potentially Elon Musk showing these plans or giving intelligence to China?” Hinojosa asked. But before she could even finish her sentence, Borelli told her: “You’re insane! You’re just making that up.”

That’s when the panel descended into chaos as Hinojosa, Borelli and now Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) all jumped in at the same time. Hinojosa managed to get in during the political quarrel on the CNN primetime show that the country’s wartime plan for China is “on a need to know basis.”
“Because only a handful of people have this information,” she said. “Not only that, I was a former Justice Department official up until two months ago, and I had a security clearance. What I will tell you…”
But when Borelli didn’t let Hinojosa complete her sentence, the former Democratic Party official told him: “Can you let the woman at this table please finish?”
“Go ahead,” he said. “You interrupted me.”
Hinojosa next went head-to-head with Lawler, who blamed President Joe Biden for being “basically incoherent as president.”
"You think that what happened, by allowing China to purchase Iranian petroleum to the tune of $200 billion and funding Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis was not a disaster?" Lawler told Hinojosa. “Are you kidding me?”
