How to find lost loyalty points including Tesco, Nectar, Boots Advantage card and more – it could save you £100s

HOUSEHOLDS could be missing out on hundreds of pounds by not tracking down old loyalty card points.

Major retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Boots all offer customers chances to save by using their loyalty card schemes.

We explain how to find old loyalty card poitns

But many shoppers are unaware of old points they have saved up which can be transformed into cash in store.

Some retailers also have expiry dates on when you can use these points, so it may be worth acting quickly so you don’t miss out.

TESCO POINTS

You need to head to the Tesco Clubcard website to track down your points.

Here you will find your voucher history and points that haven’t been spent yet.

If any are unused then they can be spent instantly online, or you can use them straight away when you next head into a store.

MoneySavingExpert has previously shared a trick to extend points though, if they are about to expire.

Shoppers can extend the dates for another two years by making a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard site with the voucher or vouchers you have.

The remaining balance of the voucher would then be credited back to your Clubcard account as points, reissued with newer expiry dates.

So if you spend 50p on a £10 voucher, you’ll get £9.50 as new vouchers.

It’s worth bearing in mind that you will have to do this for each voucher.

So it might not be as lucrative for smaller vouchers like those at £1, as you won’t get as much money back.

Tesco keeps Clubcard vouchers on your account for two years.

So you can only go back and use any unspent vouchers as far as this.

BOOTS ADVANTAGE POINTS

Customers collect three Boots Advantage Card points for every £1 you spend on qualifying purchases, which can then be turned into money off vouchers.

Boots Advantage Card points will expire if the card hasn’t been used for one year, so it may be worth checking if you have any to spend.

You can do this by logging on to your Boots.com account and then go to the “My account” section and then “Manage my Advantage Card” to view your points balance.

You can also ask a Boots colleague in-store to check your points balance.

NECTAR CARD POINTS

Customers can earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent at Sainsbury’s, both in-store and online.

Nectar points don’t expire, but if you don’t earn or redeem them for a year, your account will be closed.

If you are a Sainsbury’s customer you can find the feature in the Nectar Card app, which can be downloaded in the Google Play or Apple store.

You points will be displayed on a virtual Nectar card as soon as you log into the app.

Customers now have the option to freeze spending on Nectar points in the app until they are ready to spend them.

You can do this by downloading the app and then go into settings and click on the section which reads “Lock or Unlock Spending”.

There will be an option to click which option you would prefer.

But it means customers will not be able to use any of their points to get money off their shopping or any other deals until the cardholder unlocks the points in the app.

When you choose to unlock your points it is usually instant but may take longer in busy stores or during busy times.

If you want to use the points you have locked it may be best to unlock them before you shop.

MORRISONS MORE POINTS

The Morrisons More Card lets you earn points on purchases which can be used to get money off future shops.

Once you get to 5,000 points you can keep saving, or convert them into a voucher worth £5 to spend in-store or online

To find your Morrisons More Points, you can check your balance on the Morrisons More app, Morrisons website (after logging in), or on the bottom of your in-store or petrol kiosk receipts.

SUPERDRUG HEALTH & BEAUTYCARD POINTS

Superdrug Health & Beautycard points are valid for 24 months from the date they are earned.

However, if your account is inactive for 12 months in a row, your points will expire.

To find your Superdrug Health & Beautycard points, you can either log in to your Superdrug website account or check the Superdrug app.

COSTA COFFEE BEANS

Costa Coffee‘s loyalty scheme lets customers get free drinks and other perks by earning “beans” for every handcrafted drink purchased, with 10 beans earning a free drink.

Beans collected via the updated Costa Club rewards scheme will expire if a member has not used the mobile app or the Club Card to either earn Beans or redeem free drinks rewards for 12 months since the last transaction.

To check your Costa Coffee Club beans (points), you can use the free Costa Coffee app, which allows you to view your beans balance and exchange them for rewards.

What is loyalty pricing?

You may have heard of loyalty pricing, but do you know what it is?

Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons are three supermarkets that offer customers signed up to their loyalty schemes exclusive discounts – known as loyalty pricing.

All three retailer’s schemes, Nectar Card, Clubcard and More Card, are free to sign up to as well.

The obvious advantage to loyalty pricing is that you can save potentially hundreds of pounds a year on your shopping, all without spending a penny.

But different supermarkets offer exclusive discounts on different products, so do some research before doing your shopping.

Either way, be wary of supermarkets artificially inflating prices to make it seem like you’re getting a better deal than you are.

A previous investigation by consumer group Which? found Sainsbury’s and Tesco have increased the price of everyday goods then slapped loyalty prices on them thinking customers wouldn’t notice.

Either way, it’s worth shopping around though.

Supermarkets change their prices all the time, sometimes multiple times daily, so it’s worth researching to ensure you’re getting the best price on an item.

You can use websites like Trolley to see how the major supermarket’s compare in terms of price on any number of goods.
