2 British Dramas You Can’t Miss On Netflix + Hulu This Spring
If Princess Anne was your favorite character in The Crown, you’re a huge fan of Peaky Blinders, or you’re just a hard core anglophile, you need to check out these recent releases featuring Erin Doherty and Stephen Graham.
Adolescence
Jamie Miller is a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering his classmate, while the adults around him struggle to watch justice run its course. The creation of Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, each of Adolescence‘s four episodes was shot in one continuous hour-long take, which the cast credits for the heightened raw emotion in their performances. Graham plays Jamie’s father, Eddie, while Doherty shines as therapist Briony Ariston.
A Thousand Blows
If Oliver Twist got a post-colonial, post-#MeToo facelift that brought it into the same universe as R. F. Kuang’s NY Times Bestseller Babel, and you threw in the boxing spirit of Rocky, you would get A Thousand Blows. Doherty’s Mary Carr is a sexually-liberated female Artful Dodger meets Robin Hood, and Graham’s Sugar Goodson is the aging boxer slash owner of a pub turned fight club. Both Carr and Goodson’s lives change with the arrival of an aspiring lion tamer from Jamaica, Hezekiah Moscow, played by Malachi Kirby.
