This John Henry Moment Made Red Sox’s Alex Cora Say ‘Hell Yeah’
The Red Sox had a handful of big offseason wins, and one of them particularly excited the person highest on the organization’s totem pole.
Shortly after news broke about Boston landing Alex Bregman, Linda Pizzuti Henry shared an Instagram photo of her husband — Red Sox owner John Henry — enjoying a cigar. In wake of such a monumental addition to the franchise, it was a move that would have made legendary Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach blush.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora was asked about his boss’ victory cigar Wednesday when he appeared on “Foul Territory.”
“When I saw the picture I was like, ‘Yeah, do it,’ you know? Like, ‘Hell yeah,'” Cora said. “This guy, he cares about the Red Sox. They love Fenway, they love the area. They promised we were going to be aggressive and I think they came through.”
Of course, signing Bregman wasn’t the only move Boston made that fell into the “aggressive” category. The club acquired Garrett Crochet through one of its most significant trades in years and further bolstered the pitching staff by signing postseason stud Walker Buehler.
Those deals and more turned the Red Sox into a legitimate World Series contender. And if Boston ends up being the last team standing this fall, Henry will have the grounds to light up another stogie.
