Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences partners with St. Peter's for nursing program
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences have launched a new nursing degree program. In a partnership with St. Peter's Health Partners, students in the program will earn an Associates degree, a Bachelor's degree and prepare for the registered nurse licensing exam.
According to the college, students in the program will take general education and foundational science classes on campus and take two years of clinical classes at a nursing school.
"The new ACPHS nursing program offers students a seamless opportunity to obtain a bachelor of science degree, a future requirement for New York State and many other states for nurses to continue practicing," said Dean of ACPHS’ School of Health Sciences, Meenakshi Malik, PhD. "We are confident this will be a leading program for nurses aspiring to practice patient care across a range of health-care settings given our College’s location in the heart of Albany’s medical corridor, the close connection students have with the ACPHS community, and renowned faculty expertise in biomedical sciences, health communication, ethics, and health equity."
The college said the program will involve students in different health-care professions including pharmacy, biomedicine, social sciences and public health. In the final year of classes, those in the program will be able to work in a hybrid format to begin working in the field while also finishing classes.
"We are very proud of the work our faculty, staff and administrators have done to get us to this point. We believe that the nurses graduating from this program will make an impact as we work to reduce nursing shortages in the region," said ACPHS President Toyin Tofade, PharmD. "We are grateful to St. Peter's Health Partners for partnering with us on this opportunity."
The nursing program is the newest addition of programs for the college. According to the campus, they have expanded what programs they offer by nearly 50 percent.
The program will be offered starting in the Fall 2025 and the college has begun accepting applications. For more information on the program, visit the college's website.
