France condemns Israel’s resumption of strikes on Gaza
Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, emphasized that a return to ceasefire is essential for the release of hostages and the protection of civilians. He expressed this view on Tuesday, via the social media platform X. Macron condemned the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza and called for an immediate return to a ceasefire. He stated that the cessation of hostilities is vital to ensure the safety of civilians and to facilitate the release of all hostages.
In his message, Macron stated, “It is crucial that we return to a ceasefire. This is essential for the freedom of all hostages and the protection of civilians.” The French president highlighted the urgency of halting the violence to create conditions for peace and humanitarian relief. His call for a ceasefire underscored the dire need to stop the ongoing humanitarian crisis that has deeply affected the region.
Macron also expressed support for the efforts of Saudi Arabia and its Arab partners in formulating a credible framework for Gaza’s future post-conflict. He emphasized that this plan should serve as a basis for dialogue. The French president stressed that the international community needs to work collaboratively to develop a long-term solution that ensures stability and peace for the people of Gaza and the broader region.
Furthermore, Macron pointed out that both France and Saudi Arabia share common objectives regarding regional issues such as Lebanon and Syria. He stressed the importance of creating a political horizon for resolving the ongoing crises in the Middle East.
Macron announced that France and its international partners would be organizing a conference on a two-state solution. This conference aims to provide a platform for a political resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. The French president emphasized that a negotiated settlement remains the best path to achieving peace and ensuring long-term stability in the region.
Israel resumed heavy airstrikes across Gaza on Tuesday, March 18, breaking a ceasefire that had allowed the release of over two dozen hostages. Israel blamed Hamas for the resumption of hostilities, claiming the group rejected an Israeli-backed proposal that differed from their previous agreement.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 400 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, with the majority being women and children. No reports of Hamas launching rockets or engaging in attacks have emerged during this time.
On Wednesday, Israeli ground troops advanced into Gaza for the first time since the January ceasefire, capturing a part of the corridor separating Gaza’s northern and southern regions. Israel has stated it will continue its military operations until Hamas releases the remaining 59 hostages and gives up control of the territory.
