Fire at Lafayette Elementary School prompts temporary evacuation
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A fire was reported at a Lafayette Elementary School earlier this evening.
At 2:50 p.m. Lafayette firefighters said they responded to a small fire in a bathroom at Alice Boucher Elementary School, on Patterson Street.
School officials called 911 to report the fire and the school was temporarily evacuated. A school resource officer with Lafayette Sheriff Department extinguished the small fire limiting the damage.
Fire officials said when they entered the school, they found a small clothing item partially burnt in one of the bathroom stalls.
There were no reported injuries, minor soot and smoke damage were noted in the bathroom.
Fire officials with the Lafayette Fire Department are still investigating what caused the incident.
