Paddy McGuinness breaks silence on Take Me Out reboot – and if he’d return for show
PADDY McGUINNESS has shared a new update on a Take Me Out reboot – and there’s good and bad news.
Fans have clamoured for a return of the ITV entertainment show, which featured single men aiming to get a date with one of 30 single women.
But the comedian, 51, said there were two major issues with a reboot.
Paddy said: “I think the way things are at the world now, we live in a very strange time where if you’re saying something jokey or something not serious or whatever, it gets taken out of context, put online, and there’s a spin on everything.
“And I think Take Me Out, because it was so kind of pure and lovely and fun and Saturday night, and we had a laugh. That was of its time.
“I hope I’m wrong, but I think if you didn’t know, there’d be that many bloody things going, ‘oh, you can’t do that, you can’t say this’, and taking things out of context and what have you.”
Paddy, who hosted the show from 2010 to 2019, reckons he might now be too old to keep up with the contestants.
He added: “You know, I’m 51 now. And you know, at the time I was like late 30s, early 40s.
“We had a good demographic of girls to women and I felt like I could talk to every age.
“And I think now if I’m talking to a 20 year old girl and they ask me about dating, I don’t really know the latest funny trends or anything.”
But the Bolton-born funnyman gave hope he might one day return to the show whilst chatting on the Table Manners podcast.
He said: “Essentially, it’s a family Saturday night entertainment show. You know what I mean? And that’s what I was brought up on.
“So if they said, like, do you want to do two or three charity specials, I’d be all over it. But as a series, I don’t know.”
It’s not the first time Paddy has teased there is hope for a return of the show, which ran for an incredible 11 series.
In December Paddy shared sunny snaps on Instagram and wrote: “I’ve been back to the Isle of Fernandos!!!
“Did a spot of filming for a new show. I was only there for a couple of days but if you’re looking for a bit of winter sun, it was glorious!”

As Take Me Out viewers know, the Isle of Fernandos was a fictitious location where successful couples went on their dates.
In reality the dates took place in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife from series two onwards.
While in the first series, “Fernandos” was actually Club Bijou in Manchester.
