AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Live Music Capital of the World will soon be home to a new music venue.
AEG Presents is expected to open its new 4,000-capacity indoor entertainment venue in early 2027 as part of the River Park mixed-use development in east Austin, according to a Monday news release. The 109-acre project in the Riverside neighborhood will incorporate residential, office and entertainment space alongside parkland and public gathering areas, officials confirmed.
The venue is expected to be roughly 65,000 square-feet and will be situated at the northwest corner of East Riverside Drive and Crossing Place. Alongside live music, the venue is intended to host private events such as corporate functions, weddings, conferences, fundraisers and awards shows, officials noted.
“This project will strengthen Austin’s rich musical legacy, create new opportunities for artists, fans, and the local economy,” Mayor Kirk Watson said in the announcement. “We look forward to welcoming AEG Presents to our city.”
River Park will be situated between Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park, East Riverside Drive, Pleasant Valley Road and Country Club Creek, KXAN previously reported in September in partnership with the Austin Business Journal. At the time, project leadership said River Park would be developed across a 10-to-20-year timespan.
River Park's venue will be in the same neighborhood as Emo's, a 6,500-square-foot venue that's been open in Austin since 1992 and can house up to 1,250 guests.
AEG Presents said it will relay information on opening dates, first performances, ticket sales and the venue's official name in the next several months. The entertainment company is behind multi-day music events and festivals like the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival as well as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
