Designs approved for Congress, Ferry Street project in Troy
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- City officials approved the designs for a new infrastructure initiative in Troy that will change the traffic layout on Congress and Ferry Street. The project's overall goal is to improve safety and accessibility for community members.
Mayor Carmella Mantello approved the designs, which include a 12-foot traffic lane, a 10-foot parking lane, a 3-foot buffer space, and an 8-foot biking lane. Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.
Other improvements include new lighting, waterproofing, and noise reduction for the Ferry Street tunnel, which travels under the Russell Sage College campus. The project designs consider driver, pedestrian, and biker safety, making navigation more manageable.
Mantello said the project connects the waterfront, revitalizes neighborhoods, and makes the area walkable. It will create a new path to the waterfront, and Mantello calls it a game-changer for the city.
"By investing in this infrastructure, we are not only enhancing safety and accessibility for those of all abilities, but also attracting more businesses, encouraging tourism, and transforming our waterfront into the pearl that we have always envisioned," Mantello said. "We chose this design so that we can continue to create more accessible parking for residents and visitors alike but also to meet the needs of many residents who enjoy recreational biking and walking."
