Wetherspoons to launch new menu option as part of gourmet food range after axing three popular items in shake-up
WETHERSPOONS is making a big change to its menus this week and fans of Korean food will absolutely love it.
But revellers must wait until May 14 to get their teeth into the mouthwatering range of Korean-style chicken meals.
The chain hasn’t gone into detail about the Korean-style meals yet but it’s confident pubgoers will be keen to try a bite.
A spokesperson for the popular chain said: “Wetherspoon is making changes to its menu in May.
“This includes the removal of steaks, mixed grills and gammon on May 14.
“A new range of Gourmet Burgers will be introduced; The Big Smoke, Buffalo Burger and Cheese Meltdown, on Wed 14 May.
“There will also be a range of Korean-style chicken meals added.”
A handful of other new food items will also be introduced.
A new range of three Gourmet Burgers will be introduced and offer a selection of unseen flavours to the iconic brand.
These include The Big Smoke – a pulled BBQ beef brisket, American-style cheese and maple-cured bacon concoction.
Diners can also tuck into the Buffalo burger which serves up a fried buttermilk chicken breast, blue cheese and naga chilli sauce and American-style cheese.
Finally is the Cheese Meltdown which includes American-style cheese smothered with Emmental and Cheddar sauce.
Steak, mixed grills and gammon are all set to be scrapped from the menu after being branded the “biggest loss-makers.”
The spokesperson continued: “Wetherspoon is confident that its menu provides a variety of choices and value-for-money meals.
“We appreciate that some customers will be disappointed with the decision to remove steaks and grills.”
The pub chain’s top brass John Huston told staff on Friday that the popular dishes would be disappearing in May after an increase in meat costs.
In an email sent to staff, Wetherspoons chief Mr Huston confirmed that the meats were being ditched “after much debate”, as part of a planned menu change, but supplemented the news by announcing the new “gourmet burger” would be served up in May.
He said: “Following the drinks launch, in May we will be making changes to the food menu.
“The main addition will be a new gourmet burger range and the introduction of a 6oz burger patty as the standard size burger.
“After much debate, steaks, mixed grills and gammon are being removed from the menu.
Thanks for your attention, and good luck over the St Patrick’s Day festivities.”
