US expels Lebanese doctor over photos of Hezbollah and Iranian leaders
U.S. authorities have expelled a Lebanese doctor and university professor after discovering photos of Hezbollah and Iranian leaders on her phone.
According to U.S. officials, Rasha Alawieh a Lebanese doctor and professor at Brown University in Rhode Island, was expelled from the country. The decision came after American agents found photos of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and Hassan Nasrallah, the former Secretary-General of Hezbollah, on her phone.
Reports indicate that the 34-year-old doctor had previously attended the funeral of Hassan Nasrallah. Following an investigation into her background and the discovery of these photos, U.S. authorities decided to expel her.
Rasha Alawieh, a Lebanese doctor and Brown University professor, claimed she attended Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s funeral for religious, not political, reasons.
Hezbollah, a Lebanese group with strong ties to Iran, is designated by the U.S. as a terrorist organization. In recent years, the U.S. government has implemented stricter measures against individuals connected to groups affiliated with Iran and Hezbollah.
This expulsion highlights the growing tensions between the U.S. and groups connected to Iran and Hezbollah. The U.S. continues to enforce policies aimed at curbing Iran’s influence in the region and limiting its allies’ activities.
The expulsion of individuals linked to Hezbollah or Iran is part of a broader effort by the U.S. to ensure that foreign entities with ties to terrorism are kept in check within its borders.
