I’d always wanted a canopy bed & finally transformed my bedroom – but now people say it looks like a ‘funeral display’
A PROUD mum has left people horrified after showing off her new bedroom set-up – which they reckon looks like something much darker.
Mum Claire Hamilton took to Facebook to upload snaps of her bedroom makeover, after wanting a canopy all her life.
To give the couple’s bedroom the ultimate makeover, the DIY lover went all out with a white lace canopy right above the bed – which was topped off with a lush display of fake white roses.
The makeshift canopy, Claire explained in the post, was put together with a canopy ring she’d purchased on eBay, as well as voile curtains and holdbacks from The Range.
Another key feature in the transformation was a huge photo of the married couple in black and white – which fit the grey aesthetic the mum was going for.
Instead of spending a fortune on an upholstered wall panel, the money-smart mum used a printed Amazon wallpaper – and was amazed at how ”real” it looked to the pricey alternative.
According to the mother, she had received plenty of advice from fellow members of the popular DIY On A Budget Official page, where she shared the glow-up.
Sharing the transformation online, Claire wrote: ”I’ve always wanted my own canopy above my bed & now I have one, it all lights up too.
”Had lots of tips from this page, it’s just brill.”
But unfortunately for the mum, the grey makeover wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, as trolls reckoned the bedroom was in a dire need of a pop of colour.
One Facebook user shared their brutal verdict – and insisted the bedroom now had a rather sombre feel.
”Bit funerally!!! Defo needs some cheer and colour,” the critic reckoned, as others gave the brutal comment a like.
Luckily, it wasn’t all harsh feedback, as the post soon racked up close to 175 likes and over 20 positive comments.
”I’ve just bought those curtains from The Range, They are so pretty,” one social media user said.
Another chimed in, praising Claire for the unusual makeover: ”Very original with the canopy and pic and cushions.”

”In order to get a good night’s sleep, you’ll want to avoid any bright and intense colours in your bedroom and focus on soft, dusty tones to promote relaxation and help you doze off.”
For this, the whizz recommended opting for blue shades.
”Blue lowers your heart rate making it easier for you to fall asleep,” she explained.
”It’s such a classic colour that a lot of people turn to as their bathroom colour because a lot of shades are named after the sea, such as ocean blue or marine blue.”
On the other hand, purple is a colour you should avoid at all costs, Hannah advised.
”Rumour has it, purple is one of the worst colours for your bedroom.”
This, she added, is because ”it can subconsciously provoke vivid dreams and nightmares due to its distracting effects”.
