March Madness: Oregon gets 3 teams in NCAA tournaments

(AP) -- The March Madness brackets were revealed Sunday, setting the schedule for more than two weeks of competition in a season that saw the Southeastern Conference dominate the rankings.

Overall, 3 teams from the state of Oregon are in the dance. But the stunning omission of the University of Portland women's team left many shaking their heads and wondering why.

The tournament opens Tuesday and Wednesday with play-in games, and the first round opens Thursday and Friday, featuring 32 games at eight sites around the country. The Final Four is in San Antonio on April 5 and 7.

MEN'S BRACKET

The Oregon Ducks were selected as a 5-seed and will play 12-seed Liberty in Seattle in the opening round of the March Madness tournament on Friday at 7:10p on TruTV.

Auburn is the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, with Duke, Houston and Florida joining the Tigers on the No. 1 line in the March Madness brackets released Sunday.

The NCAA selection committee favored the regular-season champs of the record-setting Southeastern Conference despite three losses in their last four games, along with a loss to Duke back in December in the season’s lone meeting between the teams.

The Tigers (28-5) and Gators were two of the 14 SEC teams to make the field, which are the most for a conference in the history of the tournament.

WOMEN'S BRACKET

The Oregon Ducks women were slotted with a 10-seed and will face 7-seed Vanderbilt in Durham on Friday. The time and channel for the game have not yet been determined.

The Oregon State Beavers women got a 14-seed and will take on 3-seed North Carolina Saturday in Chapel Hill. The time and channel for the game have not yet been determined.

But the fact the University of Portland Pilots, 29-4 overall, was not chosen remains a stunning committee decision.

UCLA is the top overall seed in the women's NCAA Tournament. The Bruins were joined by South Carolina, Southern California and Texas as the No. 1 seeds that the NCAA revealed Sunday night.

It's the first time in school history that the Bruins are the top team in the tournament. They had two losses on the season, both of which came to the Trojans.
