Celtic Bayou Festival brings Irish flair to Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- This weekend, the seventh annual Celtic Bayou Festival took place at Warehouse 535. The festival featured a pub crawl, whiskey tasting and even live international performances.
Tony and Sheila Davoren, the festival's founding directors, were excited to see so much participation this year.
"We wanted to give something back to the community that accepted us. And we decided that we put on an authentic Irish Celtic festival right here in Lafayette for all the people, the whole family," explained Tony.
Several booths were also set up at the festival, selling a variety of Celtic merchandise to attendees. Desirea Vicknair, co-owner of Three Crafty Lassies, decided this was a perfect place to sell their merchandise.
"We just have a lot of Celtic gear that we have either made ourselves or purchased and decided this would be the perfect place to get a little touch of Irish where they can't really find it anywhere," Vicknair added.
The festival also offered plenty of activities for the 'wee' ones with a children's tent and competitions just for kids. Third-grader Roman Sonnier showed off a gnome he won for having the best red hair.
The Celtic Bayou Festival also allows musicians to show off their Irish music playing skills. Thor Ahlgren explained that this was the best opportunity to play his Greek bouzouki, which he had been playing for over 20 years.
With all their St. Patrick's Day activities, the Celtic Bayou Festival truly gave Acadiana a chance to experience Ireland in Louisiana.
