PNW sees plenty of snow, rain, weather alerts through Sunday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The KOIN 6 Weather team has a Weather Alert Day in place for the Cascades through Sunday because of potentially hazardous travel over the mountain passes this weekend.
Plus, the National Weather Service has issued several weather alerts around our region. So let's dive into those now.
Heavy mountain snow continues Sunday while the Willamette Valley will see soaking rain at times, especially during our early morning morning hours. So the active weather across the PNW rolls on through Sunday.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Cascades through 11p.m. Sunday, with as much as an additional 1-3 feet of snow expected in the Cascades above 4,000 feet by Sunday evening. ODOT is urging travelers to be prepared for winter-driving conditions in the mountains through the weekend or consider postponing travel.
There's also a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through Sunday in portions of central and south central Oregon including Crook, Deschutes, Grant and Jefferson counties above 5,000 feet. Folks out that way should expect heavy snow at times and windy conditions.
As for the valley, rain ramps up early Sunday.
The Portland-Vancouver area is not expecting significant rain Sunday but still could see short-lived downpours at times with nearly a half-inch in the forecast from our overnight hours to late Sunday night.
It's down I-5 South that'll see a dumping of rain, as an atmospheric river really takes aim at the central and southern part of the valley. From now until 11 p.m. Sunday, Eugene could total over 3 inches of rain.
And that's why the central/southern Willamette Valley and central/southern Oregon coast is currently under a Flood Watch from now through Sunday evening.
Plus, there is a Wind Advisory for portions of southern Oregon and High Wind Warning for the southern coast range and parts of south central and eastern Oregon.
