Journey Abruptly Ends Houston Concert After Electrical Fire Erupts Onstage | Video
Journey was forced to call off a show in Houston, Texas, Saturday night after an electrical fire shut off audio during “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Video from the performance shows singer Arnel Pineda and guitarist Neal Schon singing the lines “A singer in a smoky room / The smell of wine and cheap perfume / For a smile they can share the night” when the sound system crashed and jumbotrons shut down. The audience continued to sing the song as the band departed the stage.
“Last night at Houston TX Rodeo we had an amazing, overly packed house of 79-80 thousand fans that showed up to see us!!” Schon wrote on Instagram after the performance. “The only unfortunate thing was that after getting off to a slamming start the Rodeo had an electrical failure and fire broke out under the stage.”
“Thank you Houston for singing Don’t stop Believin’ before we were rushed off the stage because of an electrical fire and were not able to return. I felt terrible for our fans and offered to play tonight and make it up to y’all but they were not able to make it happen so until next time – Love and Respect,” he added.
Fans shared video from the moment on social media. “I lived in Houston for six years and went to over 30 rodeo concerts—but I’ve never seen anything like this,” wrote Jake Asman on X. “Journey was in the middle of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ when the stadium speakers blew out. The entire concert is on hold!”
The venue also acknowledged the incident on social media. “We sincerely apologize to all fans for this disappointment. Our team is working diligently to assess the situation, and we will provide updates regarding rescheduling options and refunds as soon as possible,” RodeoHouston wrote on Facebook.
