What is a ‘coregasm’ and how can you achieve one, as Sophie Habboo admits experiencing the saucy gym phenomenon
SOPHIE Habboo left people stunned recently when she admitted to experiencing a ‘coregasm’ in the gym.
Speaking on her weekly Wednesdays podcast, which she hosts with former co-star Melissa Tattam, the Made In Chelsea star opened up about the saucy gym phenomenon.
The friends discussed some of the most unusual situations in which they’ve climaxed, which is when Sophie shared her workout confession.
“I definitely remember like doing an ab workout in the gym in Newcastle and being like ‘what the f**k just happened?’,” Sophie said.
“It’s very common isn’t it,” she continued.
“It was like a different type of orgasm, but it was something going on,” the reality star went on.
According to Sophie, you can achieve the sensation by going the extra mile with core exercises – but what’s the truth?
Well, after the star’s admission other people chimed in to say they experienced the same thing.
“Coregasms are the best, discovered them years ago, still going strong,” one person commented on the viral podcast clip.
But others were less convinced, as one wrote: “In the gym, c’mon … hahaha sorry Sophie, love ya but hell nooo,”
And another chimed in: “Come on … this does not happen.”
It turns out Sophie isn’t the only celeb who has claimed to experience the gym phenomenon either.
Model Jessica White previously told Bikini.com: “I was doing these squats one time, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is orgasmic.’ Maybe I was squeezing and doing my Kegels, I don’t know what it was. I had to go to the bathroom.”
And radio presenter Polly “PJ” Harding made a similar confession on her KIIS FM breakfast show, despite claiming it was “embarrassing to talk about.”
“I was working out… and when I worked out, I experienced this (audio of fireworks). It’s so embarrassing to talk about.”
PJ explained that she was using a new machine at her gym, when she suddenly felt something “awkward” about to happen in front of her personal trainer.
She went on: “So I had to do 15 reps of it. And I was about 10 in and I thought, ‘Oh no, oh no, here we go.
“I thought if I do 11… but I didn’t want to look weak and I didn’t want to stop. So I kept going and then all of a sudden… I had to pretend that nothing had happened.
“I thought I was going to come out with some abs, but I came out with something completely different.”
WHAT IS A ‘COREGASM’?
According to Debby Herbenick, author and associate professor at Indiana University’s School of Public Health, at least 10 per cent of all people — no matter the age, gender or fitness level – experience orgasms while exercising.
Her 2015 book The Coregasm Workout explained the phenomenon, presenting workouts to help increase the chances of arousal or orgasm during exercise.
She said women were more likely to have these orgasms from exercises that are demanding of the core abdominal muscles.
“We don’t know the specific muscles that are causing this to happen,” she said.
“What we know is that there are very clear patterns of exercise. This almost never happens on the third or fourth crunch. It happens when you fatigue your muscles doing core exercises.
“The other thing that makes it more likely to experience arousal and orgasm in some people is to start with at least 20 minutes of cardio and then immediately going into a core workout.”
According to the expert, an orgasm that happens during sex compared to one that happens during exercise feels slightly different, much like Sophie claimed.
“The exercise ones are very bodily,” she said.
“With sex, in the best situation you also have an emotional connection — there’s warmth, intimacy, and meaning. And certainly sexual feelings as well.
“The exercise ones don’t feel very sexual to people. They feel sensual and tingly, but they’re not bonding you to a partner.”
