Concord man charged after allegedly euthanizing pet pig, fleeing from police
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Concord man faces weapons and firearm charges after he allegedly euthanized a pet pig by shooting it with a firearm and then fled from police on Friday, the Erie County Sheriff's Office announced.
Officials said just before 10 p.m., an individual from a veterinary hospital called police and said Marc Reszka, 50, called the hospital in an upset state after he euthanized the pig. Police conducted a welfare check at Reszka's residence on Springville-Boston Road and observed him to be "disheveled and upset" upon arrival.
After police saw blood on the floor, they located the dead pig in a garbage bag in the entryway, officials said. Police also said 11 firearms were in plain view. Reszka had to surrender all firearms since he has an active order of protection, the sheriff's office said.
According to police, Reszka started fleeing toward the woods as police were handcuffing him. He allegedly ignored warnings that if he failed to stop running, he would be tased. Police then deployed a taser and Reszka fell to the ground.
He was transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital for evaluation and then transported for holding at the Erie County Holding Center.
Reszka was charged with the following:
- two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm
- first-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- 11 counts of criminal possession of a firearm
- 11 counts of second-degree criminal contempt
- resisting arrest
- second-degree obstructing governmental administration
