Thousands celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in Albany parade
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Thousands joined in on the annual Saint Patrick’s Day in downtown Albany. It brought in dozens of participants marching in festivity for Irish heritage. Last year, it was announced that the 2025 Grand Marshals came from the Menands St. Patrick’s Club. The parade kicked off at 2:00 p.m. at Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue.
The NEWS10 team and Mobile Storm Tracker could be seen in the parade waving to the crowd. They followed a group of Irish dancers and the members of a local police department. NEWS10's Giuliana Bruno and Griffin Haas emceed the parade and acknowledged every group that was a part of it.
The parade was led by the Colonie Police officers riding on motorcycles. Following that was an array of green and orange flags, floats, and banners. For Joseph Lipuma and his grandsons from Albany, the best part of the entire parade was the bagpipes.
"I just love the noise," Lipuma said. "I like the sound."
Anaya Acevedo was one of the many cheerleaders in the parade. She is a part of the East Greenbush Pop Warner Devil Nation Cheer team. Acevedo said this is her first time participating in the Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Albany.
"It is exciting; it is fun," Acevedo said. "I know I said fun a lot of times, but it just is. I like seeing my friends outside of competition."
Hundreds of people lined Central Avenue all the way to State Street. The parade lasted about an hour and a half.
