Beavers KO Santa Clara in rain-shortened game
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Dax Whitney pitched 5 hitless innings combined with good defense and small ball to help Oregon State past Santa Clara, 8-0 in a 7-inning game shortened by rain in Corvallis.
Whitney struck out 5, walked 3 and hit one batter before giving way to the Beavers bullpen, who held the lead the Beavers gained in the bottom of the 4th on a safety squeeze and two solid singles.
Then they broke it open in the 6th. The Beavers loaded the bases with no one out and ended up scoring 4 times to take a 7-0 lead.
Oregon State added one more in the 7th on a wind-blown infield popup that fell to the turf immediately before the umpires pulled the teams off the field for a rain delay.
After less than 10 minutes, the umpires called the game -- an Oregon State victory, 8-0 over Santa Clara.
