Bride slammed for ‘toxic’ wedding rules as she doubles down on not ‘pleasing anyone’ and forces loved ones to miss out
IT’S one of the main things that leaves people divided when it comes to weddings – should kids be invited?
Some people insist little ones should get to celebrate with the rest of the family, but others reckon it’s a more adult event and they should be left at home.
One bride-to-be caused a stir when she revealed her wedding will be child-free, even if it means close family can’t attend.
Taking to TikTok, the bride, who goes by @knkenny, shared a video that quickly went viral.
In the clip, she explained that some of her family told her they wouldn’t be able to make it to the wedding because they couldn’t get someone to watch their kids.
But the bride mused that they only mentioned it because they thought she’d tell them to ignore the rule and bring the kids – but they were wrong.
She said: “Family can’t come to your wedding as they have no childcare, thinking we will invite kids, it’s still a childfree wedding.”
She then captioned the video: “Ain’t changing nothing on our wedding day to please anyone except myself and my husband.”
But after sharing her experience, people couldn’t decide if she did the right thing or not.
One person commented on the video: “If you’re mad about a child free wedding, your kids are probably the reason people have them.”
And a second said: “I don’t understand why people even want their kids there. Most weddings include alcohol and drunk people, this isn’t very child friendly.”
“If someone wants a child free wedding that’s totally their choice, but then they can’t get mad when I don’t come,” a third chimed in.
Meanwhile, one bride confessed if she could do it over she wouldn’t have kids at her big day.
She explained: “If I got married again it would be child free, you could barely hear some of the speeches because of them and they wrecked the chocolate fountain!”
And another said: “People usually send invites months in not a year in advance, that’s enough time to find a babysitter.”
This isn’t the first time the argument has left people divided though, as one woman took to Reddit to confess her friend yelled at her kid for “ruining” her wedding.
Everything was going “swimmingly” during the ceremony, as she’d even bought “quiet activities” to keep the children occupied.
“I even cried from how lovely it was,” she noted.
At the reception, the bride and groom and their guests had dinner, before the newlyweds hit the dance floor for their first dance.
“Afterwards, everybody was welcomed to the floor to dance for a bit before cake cutting,” she continued.
“At this point, the kids were running around and playing with each other and it was a fairly secure space and I knew almost everybody there, so I felt comfortable with my son playing with the other kids while hubby and I had fun dancing.”
While she’d had “a couple of glasses of wine at this point”, the bride was also “drinking and celebrating”.
When it came to the cake cutting, the woman and her husband made their way over, but there was a “crowd blocking our view”.
That’s when the couple heard a scream and looked over to see their son digging into the wedding cake.
While the woman tried to apologise, the bride turned round and yelled “This is YOUR FAULT. Your son RUINED my cake. He’s only here because YOU told me it would be worth it to include the kids!”
And people in the comments section were quick to point the finger at the woman, rather than the bride.
“YOU and your negligent parenting are the reason people don’t allow kids at weddings,” one raged.
“You ruin it for parents who understand that littles need supervision and would be with their kid making sure they behave, and removing them if they don’t.”
“Why would you even want to take a 4 year old to a wedding?!? I don’t understand it at all,” another questioned.
“Your kid ruined the wedding cake and you feel that’s just an ‘accident’?” a third wrote.
“He wilfully dug his fingers into the cake and ate a piece of it. How is that an accident?”
