Jennifer Saunders and Adrian Edmondson caught in six-month-long planning row over extension to £2m Dartmoor mansion
BRITISH comedians Jennifer Saunders and Adrian Edmondson were caught in a six-month planning row over an extension to their £2 million Dartmoor mansion.
The couple initially submitted a planning application to Dartmoor National Park Planning Authority back in August 2024 that contained plans for a gargantuan renovation.
But this soon turned into a sour planning row that lasted six months.
Jennifer and Adrian looked to “reinforce the setting and significance” through their property plans before getting slammed by a building conversation officer.
In a statement included in the planning application, the officer disputed that the proposed changes would have “no benefit” to the general public.
They said: “As the application currently stands the impact of the proposals on the significance of the listed buildings and their setting has not been minimised.”
But following half-a-year’s worth of consultation with the local authority, the couple have finally received the green light, or “conditional approval,” to begin construction on their home.
The Grade II-listed manor house already boasts, where the pair have lived for the last 30 years, already boasts a huge garden, swimming pool and detached cottage.
According to the plans, Saunders and Edmondson will now also add a brand new garden pavilion to the host of luxuries, along with a “dedicated pottery workspace”.
The pottery studio has been described as a “space to facilitate the clients personal interests” in the planning.
And the “oak frame” garden pavilion is to be built at the end of their huge garden, featuring a “covered outdoor dining space” in a “discrete location”.
EV chargers for their Tesla car are also to be fitted at the property in the plans, away from view in a designated car parking building.
On top of this, a “site wide energy strategy” has been developed to preserve the old property – including “some of the earliest recorded ancient tenements”.
Plus, solar panels will be installed, along with a “hybrid system using air source heat pumps”.
The plans come amid the couple’s plans to spend more time in Devon, having previously split their time between there and London, it is believed.
The makeover is designed to “better suit their current needs and lifestyles”.
In a statement, Dartmoor National Park Planning Authority told MailOnline: “All planning applications undergo a review process in which DNPA officers evaluate whether the proposal meets the requirements of the Dartmoor Local Plan.
“Regarding the application you have enquired about, consultation responses were considered, and officers have worked proactively to find solutions which resulted in the application being considered acceptable.”
The works are expected to start soon.
It comes after Jennifer appeared as a guest judge on The Masked Singer last year – along with best pal Dawn French.
Speaking ahead of the show, Dawn said: “Any rivalry between Jen and I on this show will NOT be friendly… We love each other but a competition is a competition and I will take that beatch down with no mercy.”
Jennifer added: “Dawn is far more up-to-date with the Who’s Who of showbiz, so I’m hoping she’ll give me some suggestions.”
The Sun has contacted the couple’s representatives for comment.
