US confirms death of senior ISIS commander in Iraq
U.S. Central Command confirmed the death of a senior ISIS commander, Abu Khadijah, in an operation in Iraq.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported the death of a senior commander of ISIS in Iraq. On Saturday, March 15, CENTCOM announced via its official X account that Abdullah Maki Mslah al-Rifai, also known as Abu Khadijah, was killed in the Anbar province of Iraq.
According to CENTCOM in a statement, Abu Khadijah’s death occurred during an operation, and one of his companions was also killed. Abu Khadijah was considered a key financial supporter of ISIS and played a significant role in the group’s decision-making processes.
The statement further clarified that the confirmation of his death was verified through DNA analysis. This follows previous claims by CENTCOM regarding the death of a senior ISIS member in Syria.
The elimination of such high-ranking figures is part of the ongoing efforts by U.S. forces to dismantle the leadership structure of ISIS and curb its operational capabilities in the region.
The death of Abu Khadijah marks another significant blow to ISIS’s command structure, weakening its ability to coordinate large-scale attacks. The continuing operations in both Iraq and Syria highlight the sustained efforts by the U.S. and allied forces to combat terrorism and bring stability to the region.
