Trump’s plan to ban citizens of Afghanistan and other countries from US
According to an internal document currently under review by the U.S. government, the administration of Donald Trump plans to target citizens from 43 countries with new travel restrictions to the United States. This proposed ban is expected to be more extensive than the restrictions implemented during Trump’s first term as president.
The New York Times reported on Friday, March 14, that the plan includes three categories.
According to The statement, the proposal is still under review and will be sent to the White House next week. The Trump administration views it as a measure to “protect national security,” but critics argue it is discriminatory.
In the “Red List,” citizens from 11 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen, would be completely banned from entering the U.S.
Reports suggest that if the plan is implemented, citizens from 10 countries, including Afghanistan, will be banned from traveling to the U.S. This move is expected to affect immigration and travel for individuals from these nations.
In the “Orange List,” citizens from 10 other countries, including Russia, Pakistan, Belarus, and Myanmar, would face strict visa restrictions. Only wealthy individuals or prominent businessmen may be allowed to travel, but an in-person visa interview would be mandatory.
Additionally, 22 other countries are placed in the “Yellow List,” giving them 60 days to address security and information deficiencies. If they fail to do so, they could be moved to one of the other two lists.
It is important to note that during Trump’s first term, a similar ban was imposed on several Muslim-majority countries, which was later modified and approved after widespread protests. These restrictions were lifted in 2021 by President Joe Biden, but Donald Trump is now seeking to revive them.
The inclusion of Afghanistan in the “Red List” could have wide-reaching impacts on Afghan immigrants and refugees, as thousands of Afghans are still attempting to secure U.S. visas following the collapse of the Afghan government.
This proposed travel ban reflects the Trump administration’s ongoing focus on tightening U.S. border security, especially in relation to countries deemed high-risk. While the plan aims to protect national security, it is likely to spark debate over its potential impact on international relations and the rights of individuals seeking to enter the U.S. from these countries.
