Not a surf day
Hello Friends,
At daybreak the skies were cloudy and the wind was coming lightly from the SW. It’s going to be a very warm 29 later today, so many a mind will turn to thoughts of a refreshing surf. Alas, the energy levels have dwindled from yesterday’s barely surfable settings to essentially flat conditions. The peak energy was coming from an almost implausible 194° (S by SSW) and the average period was an utterly gutless 6 seconds. Not that it really matters, but the 1.66 m high tide at 0954 wasn’t really helping either. So another day to enjoy the 23 C water with a swim or an exercise paddle at your favourite beach.
The swell models are showing it staying microscopic through close of play tomorrow. A 20-30 kt south change is on the cards for Monday morning and with it, the Bureau tells us, will come a rapidly increasing south pulse that they expect to be in the 2-4 metre, 8-9 second range by the afternoon. Tuesday could see lighter onshores for the early with around 2 metres of 10-sec dead south swell. After that the remainder of the week looks to be in the metre-ish range with a more easterly angle to the swell and light winds for the early sessions.
Go well with your Saturday everyone!
Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over the north coast, while a trough about the central coast is weakening. North to northeasterly winds will persist during the weekend ahead a cold front and its associated trough that will enter the far south coast later Sunday. These systems will move across the state, with a strong and gusty southerly wind change along the coast in its wake. The change will reach the far north coast later Monday, then the southerly winds will gradually ease from Tuesday onward as a new high pressure system enters the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge along the coast.
