Rolling Stone spotlights Latin music during night 3 of SXSW showcase
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Rolling Stone has quickly established itself as a major showcaser over the last few years at South by Southwest.
The music, pop culture and politics magazine first appeared at SXSW in 2023 with its “Future of Music” showcase, which has become one of the more sought-after music events of the festival since then.
The four-night concert series aims to “celebrate the trailblazing artists shaping the music of tomorrow,” according to Rolling Stone.
The third night of the series, which took place Thursday, spotlighted Latin musicians. The lineup consisted of Ivan Cornejo, Nsqk, Chuwi, GALE and Riobamba.
CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso was on the original lineup, but there was a last-minute change, resulting in the addition of Chuwi. SXSW didn’t make an announcement as to when or why the duo was dropped from the lineup, nor did CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, but fans showed up at the event to find a screen with an updated lineup.
Still on the stage Thursday night were Ivan Cornejo, an American-Mexican singer-songwriter from California, Nsqk, artist/producer from Mexico, Chuwi a Puerto Rican musical group, GALE, a singer also from Puerto Rico, and Riobamba, an Ecuadorian-Lithuanian sound artist/DJ.
Riobamba DJ’ed throughout the night, in between artist sets. GALE opened the show, followed by Chuwi. Then, Nsqk took the stage, and Ivan Cornejo headlined.
The Future of Music showcase coincides with Rolling Stone’s “Future of Music” print issue, which will be on newsstands in April. The showcase includes talent featured in the third annual Future 25 list.
