Boy, 13, critically injured while subway surfing in Queens: sources
QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – A 13-year-old boy was critically injured while subway surfing in Queens on Friday, sources told PIX11 News.
The teenager was discovered on the roadbed of the northbound No. 7 train around 8:15 a.m., according to authorities.
He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, police said. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to authorities.
The No. 7 line is running with delays heading toward 34th Street-Hudson Yards, according to the MTA. There was express service from Mets-Willets Point to 74th Street-Broadway, but trains have since resumed making stops at stations.
At least six people were killed in subway surfing incidents last year, according to NYPD data. The MTA has been working with social media companies to remove any videos of subway surfing from their platforms.
The agency also launched an educational advertisement campaign in 2023 in hopes of preventing more subway surfing incidents.
