Photos: Overnight lunar eclipse makes sky a little bit darker
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A total lunar eclipse overnight made the night sky in Western New York just a little bit darker.
The partial eclipse began just after 1 a.m. Friday and was in full totality between around 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

A total lunar eclipse can only happen when there is a full moon and Earth is positioned directly between the sun and the moon. They only happen once about every 2 1/2 years and are seen in different regions of the world. Friday morning's total lunar eclipse was the first since Nov. 8, 2022.
