Tottenham fans are all saying the same thing about Lucas Bergvall’s future
Tottenham Hotspur fans are over the moon with Lucas Bergvall’s recent performance against AZ Alkmaar, with many seeing him as a midfield star of the future.
Coming into Thursday’s clash, Tottenham Hotspur were without Rodrigo Bentancur, who was suspended after picking up his third yellow card in the competition during the first leg.
That meant Ange Postecoglou had to tweak his midfield setup, with Pape Matar Sarr coming in to replace the Uruguayan.
While Postecoglou continues to rotate his midfield options, one player has remained a constant in recent weeks – Lucas Bergvall.
Lucas Bergvall’s growing influence in Tottenham’s midfield
If there were any doubts about the youngster’s impact, Thursday night put them to rest. Bergvall was handed another start in one of Tottenham’s biggest games of the season, proving his growing importance to Postecoglou’s plans.
Once again, Bergvall caught the eye with his performance. Following his display, we took to social media to see what Tottenham fans made of it. They were all pleased.
One fan said: “Going to be a great player. He is so young, and people need to remember his two mistakes that led to goals almost cost them the tie. That is why supporters should cut the team some slack – they are not built to win now, but in three to five years.”
Another stated: “Really, really good performance. I know he made that mistake for the goal, but he did not let it bother him. He still showed his class all the way until he came off. A really good performance as always from Lucas.”
Robert Cross acknowledged: “Lucas always gives 110%. Gonna be a star. Let’s hope we can keep him.”
Another fan added: “Best I’ve seen from a Spurs midfielder since Bentancur’s magic run under Conte.”
One supporter found the silver lining in Tottenham’s challenging season: “He is quality. And though we had injuries, blessing in disguise! Reason? They had to play him, Gray, Moore and the other lads. Throw them in the deep end, and they can swim!”
Bergvall is tipped to become Spurs’ next midfield star
Lucas Bergvall already looks like he has been a mainstay in Tottenham’s engine room for years.
The young Swede ran the show for Postecoglou’s side from a deep-lying midfield role, constantly picking up the ball and breaking the lines with powerful running or clever passes around the corner.
However, there are still parts of his game that need work. If he can iron out the sloppy parts of his game, like the careless pass that gifted AZ Alkmaar a goal, he has the potential to be world-class.
