I’m 62 and dress like I’m 20… people call me tarty and desperate but they’re just jealous – I’ll wear minis when I’m 90

STRUTTING through the frozen food section at the supermarket, Kimberley Foskett stops to pick up ice cream for her grandkids.

But as she opens the freezer door, the retired factory worker hears two women whispering behind her.

‘I refuse to dress my age,’ she says[/caption]

“I cannot believe she’s wearing high-cut denim shorts and stockings. She should dress her age,” says one.

“And cowboy boots — 60 is not the new 20,” sneers her pal.

Instead of giving the two ‘trolley trolls’ an earful, Kimberley smiles and flashes them a cheeky wink.

Her response leaves the women blushing with embarrassment.

For Kimberley, 62, comments like these are nothing new.

She is often called out for her daring outfits, which include high-cut ‘Daisy Duke’ shorts, fishnets, miniskirts, tight jeans and low-cut tops.

But it only makes her more determined to dress how she likes.

Bucking convention

“I am a proud mum and gran and I refuse to dress my age,” she says.

“I love my fashion sense and so does Mark, my hubby.

“I do not care if people call me ‘mutton dressed as lamb’. They are just jealous.”

Kimberley is not the only woman of a certain age who is bucking convention when it comes to how they dress.

A recent survey found that 86 per cent of women over 50 say style should not be defined by age.

But research by the Centre for Ageing Better revealed almost a third — 31 per cent — of women and men believe people over the age of 50 should always wear ‘age-appropriate’ outfits.

Kimberley, who lives in Southampton with Mark, 66, a retired electrical fitter, says she relishes ruffling feathers with her risque fashion choices.

“I love my denim shorts and usually pair them with fishnets, Doc Marten boots and a leather jacket for date night with Mark,” she says.

‘I dress how I want’

For the weekly grocery shop, Kimberley will wear a miniskirt with cowboy boots and a corset-style top.

“I’ve heard people remark that my style is tarty, inappropriate, or even desperate,” she says.

“People say I should cover up or set a good example, but that is their view, not mine.

“Most will not say it to my face. Usually, it’s just loud enough for me to hear. Or I get an eye roll and an up and down stare.

“But I don’t give a damn. I want more ladies my age to do the same thing.”

I have always dressed how I want, even as a teen

Kimberley says she prefers to kill her critics with kindness.

“Trolley trolls and wardrobe warriors just want you to react,” she says.

“I won’t give people the satisfaction.

Kimberley — who is mum to flight attendant daughter Lauren, 30, and has two stepchildren, Michael and Nadine, aged 35 and 29 — also has rock ’n’ roll and motor racing-themed T-shirts, which she loves to wear with tight jeans or denim shorts for lunch with the girls.

For running errands or babysitting her six grandkids and step-grandkids, she will opt for a figure-hugging jumpsuit and T-shirt, or leggings and a vest.

Her shoe collection includes clear Perspex high heels, which she wears with tight jeans or a tight-fitting dress.

“I love shopping at Boohoo, ASOS and Primark,” she says.

“I also enjoy a good charity shop rummage and am still wearing clothes I had in my twenties.

“They still fit, so I will not throw them out.”

Kimberley met Mark at work in November 1991 and three years later the pair welcomed their daughter Lauren.

When the couple married in March 2008, Kimberley wore a tight-fitting off-the-shoulder wedding dress with a basque and fishtail.

“Mark loves my look. He constantly tells me I am hot and encourages me to dress like I do,” she says. “It is amazing being with a man who thinks like that.

“If I showed up in a twinset, or frocks that hid my figure, I think he would leave me.”

Kimberley says she looks up to singers like Madonna, 66, and Cher, 78, who regularly take to the stage in revealing outfits.

“They’re my fashion inspiration and style sisters,” she says. “I love being ‘granny cool’ or a ‘hot nan’.”

At 5ft 2in, size eight Kimberley boasts 36D boobs and works out in her home garage gym, lifting weights and doing cardio.

“I have always been into fitness. If I don’t move it, I lose it,” she says.

“I still have the boobs, body and legs to pull off a mini skirt and even if I didn’t, I’d still be wearing them.

“I love my fake tan, but I have not had Botox, filler, or plastic surgery. I am all real.”

While husband Mark is a fan, Kimberley’s fashion choices don’t always go down well with her family.

“My daughter occasionally rolls her eyes,” she admits.

“Growing up there were times she said I should dress ‘more like normal mums’.

“And my eldest grandkid is almost a teen, so I am preparing for a lecture or a ‘Granny, please cover up’ plea. But that is a teen’s job, isn’t it?”

‘Zest for life’

Kimberley scoffs at recent research which claims fashion experts believe women should stop wearing short skirts at 40.

I still wear bikinis at 62 — just like actress Helen Mirren, who is sexy at 79

“I don’t care what the so-called experts say,” she says.

“My style suits my outgoing personality, zest for life and youthful looks.”

In fact, Kimberley reckons she will still don mini-skirts and fishnets when she is 90.

“I still wear bikinis at 62 — just like actress Helen Mirren, who is sexy at 79,” she says.

“If I still have the figure, then I plan to dress like I do — no matter how old I get.

“I am sure the trolley trolls will be out in force, but I don’t care. Let them.”

Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Roster Projection, Volume II

Which twenty-six Reds will we see?

A good bit has changed about the nature of the Cincinnati Reds roster mix since last we gave our best guess at who might be included on it come Opening Day.

Spencer Steer’s shoulder maintained its issues, and he received a cortisone shot back on March 1st. Andrew Abbott, though, has seen his shoulder progress well enough that he threw a pair of IP in a AAA game just yesterday. Rhett Lowder is still behind schedule, unfortunately, but at least it looks like he’s moving forward and not backwards. Speaking of ‘back,’ Tyler Stephenson headed for an MRI after lingering back pain.

Rule 5 draftee Cooper Bowman was sent back to the Oaksacvegas Athletics, while former top prospect Noelvi Marte was officially sent down to AAA.

That’s a lot to process, as are the risks of losing players in camp as non-roster invitees if they aren’t selected to start the season. Same goes for players with no options remaining, as they very well could be scooped up on waivers if not placed on the roster from day one.

With Opening Day now less that two weeks away (!!), here’s our latest, greatest estimate of which Reds will make up the Opening Day roster.

Catcher

I’ve got Tyler Stephenson (1) still on here alongside Jose Trevino (2), as all initial reports on Ty Steve’s back are that his issue is minor. It may mean we see more of Jose in the lineup early on, so far there’s nothing to suggest these aren’t the two backstops they’ll carry from day one.

Infielders (5)

Elly De La Cruz (3) and Matt McLain (4) are the cornerstones of this team, and they’ll form the middle infield. Christian Encarnacion-Strand (5) and Jeimer Candelario (6) seem to be locks in the corner rotation, while Santiago Espinal (7) has solidified his spot as the do-it-all infielder in reserve.

Gavin Lux

Gavin Lux (8)! He’ll see time at 3B, 2B, LF, and even at DH when the time is right. Since I’ve got Spencer Steer beginning the year on the IL, Lux’s versatility will help offset that usually created by having Steer on the roster for the time being.

Outfielders (5)

TJ Friedl (9) is back and healthy and poised to be the everyday CF and leadoff man all 4-WAR style once again. He’ll be flanked by Jake Fraley (10) and Austin Hays (11) most days, with Stuart Fairchild (12) a RHH option on days when Terry Francona wants to stack those up against southpaws. That brings us to Blake Dunn (13), whose RHH ability wins out in this mix over Will Benson since Lux, a LHH, is filling the ‘move anywhere when it’s time to switch’ role previously occupied by Steer, a RHH. In other words, I think Francona will choose to have one more righty bat around than another lefty.

Starting Rotation

Hunter Greene (14) will start on Opening Day, as well he should. He’ll be flanked in some order by each of Nick Martinez (15), Brady Singer (16), and Nick Lodolo (17) for sure at this point. Since the season is long as all heck, I just don’t think the Reds will rush back Andrew Abbott at anything less than ‘full stretched out,’ so I expect him to begin on the IL and miss a turn or two through the rotation - if anything, that may make him even more valuable down the stretch in August/September. I think the Reds carry Carson Spiers (18) as something of ‘starter on an expected bullpen day’ for the time being.

Bullpen

I don’t believe Graham Ashcraft (19) starts the year in the minors - rather, I think he’s carried as the piggyback guy for Spiers’ turn through the rotation with the expecation that he can fill-in for multiple IP when needed in a role akin to how Martinez began last year. Brent Suter (20), Sam Moll (21), and Taylor Rogers (22) form the LHP corps in the ‘pen, while Alexis Díaz (23) will resume his role as the closer. RHP options Emilio Pagán (24) and Scott Barlow (25) have guaranteed money on their deals, so they’ll be down there until they prove ten times they shouldn’t be, leaving one final spot that I’m expected to be filled by Tony Santillan (26) - he pitched well enough last year to deserve it and he’s out of options, so that’s a no-brainer.

Notes

Steer and Abbott are the two notable omissions here. Despite how dismal the Reds have begun seasons in recent memory (and how much that has folded any and all optimism entering those years immediately), I just think they’ll play it safe with them (and Lowder). Abbott getting ~27-28 starts is still very much viable, as is Steer surpassing 550 PA.

Ian Gibaut being back in camp is cool, and he’s fanned 8 against a lone walk in 7.0 IP so far this spring. He’s not on the roster, however, as a NRI on a minor league deal, so I don’t expect him to beat out the rest of the options above. That said, I do think he’s showing enough right now to firmly be in the mix as the first bullpen arm promoted when the inevitable dings happen to the rostered names ahead of him.

Chase Petty has looked really, really solid so far in camp, and at this rate he’ll make his debut (and more) as a Red at some point this year...just not on Opening Day or in the first few turns of the rotation, assuming all goes well elsewhere.
