Athlete of the Week: Ashton Joseph
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY) -- The Athlete of Week is Cecilia High School basketball's Ashton Joseph.
After joining Cecilia's basketball team his senior year, Ashton Joseph said he was happy that he got the opportunity to turn his dreams into reality.
"Since I was a little baby, I always dreamed of playing basketball. That was my dream. I love to play basketball." Joseph said.
Joseph used to play football but switched to basketball to fulfill his life long dreams.
"I wanted to try basketball, see what I was getting into." Joseph said.
And on senior night, it was Ashton's time to shine by scoring points for his team and uplifting the crowd's school spirit.
"I was just dreaming of the game. Just dreaming about it. I told myself, I'm so glad I'm going to get into the game." Joseph said. "Finally going to hit a shot and I hit a shot. That was my dream, just to go in the game to have fun."
Joseph said his teammates and coaches are his biggest supporters. He especially appreciates Coach Alphonso Williams for giving him the chance after transitioning from football.
"I love that boy. I love him so much. I just want to tell him thank you so much. I just love that boy man. That's my boy, I love him to death. I just love that boy." Joseph said.
Outside of sports, Joseph loves to have fun and take care of his family, who have always supported his love sports even through hard times.
"I just love working. My pawpaw has cancer and I love helping him, so that's my job. Have fun and help my pawpaw, who shows me love." Joseph explained proudly.
After graduation, Joseph wants to go to college and then go straight to work, but before leaving Cecilia, Ashton has a message for any student who wants to have success as an athlete.
"Do what y'all have to do. Have fun, do what y'all have to do. Just have fun." Jospeh said. "Like how I just said, no one is perfect and no one is right. You just do what you have to do. Just show love to people. That's all you do."
